I get that question a lot.
And, I get it. Seems unusual for a lawyer and Ombuds to be in the dental space.
But to me it makes perfect sense.
I got my start in healthcare
I held doctors accountable for sexual misconduct. I know. Unfortunately, this is much more common than people realize. Last year, Dr. Bicuspid had several stories about misconduct.
I learned a lot of medicine (frequently mistaken for staff) to work my cases. That included meeting many healthcare professionals who give me insider insights into the profession.
Harsh!
Turns out, both lawyers and dentists have a rough path to graduation.
School is a fiercely competitive, emotionally brutal experience that makes you into a perfection-seeking technician. I knew what a lawyer should do, but had no clue on how things worked in real life.
You leave school only to realize you gotta learn more- how to practice, run a startup and lead a team on your own. Nobody teaches you that part unless you’re lucky enough to have a good mentor.
I get you
I get you. I understand why certain things get ignored or mishandled when it comes to managing a team.
I know the insecurity & fear that happens when you’re the decision-maker responsible for other people, their families and everybody's livelihood.
I get how frustrating it is not having the skills or experience to deal with toxic situations at work and how that stuff lives rent-free in your head.
The good news is...
I’m here to turn things around. I learned how to lead and manage as an introvert lawyer. You can do it as a dentist. There's a lot of joy for me to see you master emotional intelligence and conflict management skills then have amazing outcomes at work and at home.
Of course, if you have questions about Ombuds work or whether it's a good fit for your practice or DSO, my best advice is to book an Elevate Consult. We'll sort it out together and it's free.
What's the cost of unresolved conflict in your DSO?
Hint: it's more than turnover. Let's talk about it.
