Are you sure everyone feels happy?
Here’s a bit of bad news that you want to think about over the break and plan to resolve.
Did you know that the Great Resignation of ‘21-22 is back.
According to Forbes, 1 of 3 employees is planning to quit in 2025.
35% of dental hygienists said they plan to leave the profession in the next 5 years. That is gonna leave a dent in production for sure.
So what can you do?
Hold onto your people!!
Conduct stay interviews
You're likely familiar with exit interviews. Well, stay interviews are the opposite. You interview the team members who remain with your practice.
A stay interview is a fabulous tool that I'd love to see more practices use. Why? When done correctly, heps you understand what you’re doing right, and if you’re lucky, a few clues about what needs to change. Team members close to the action typically have answers when things go sideways, but often aren't asked. Missd opportunity.
As Forbes suggests, you want to use an external consultant to conduct the interviews, not your internal team. I agree with that.
Sometimes people feel more comfortable and open up more to a stranger. Especially someone who can't impact their employment.
For example, I’m able to build rapport and trust quickly, which allows me to ask different questions and get more detailed answers. The most useful parts are the tangents people take me on because I’m new. I get to see how the sausage REALLY gets made.
You probably have a different perception of daily work life. The stay interviews will either confirm or refute your opinion. That information is golden!
Remember, just because no one’s complaining doesn’t automatically mean everyone is satisfied or happy.
So as 2025 begins ask yourself: how well do I know the dreams and goals of my team. Do I know what they really think?
No worries if you'd rather not. Reach out and I’ll conduct your stay interview and create an action plan in 2025.
